Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation
A nation today
Background
The reservation is about 113,000 acres in Juab and Tooele counties in Utah and White Pine County in Nevada, an oasis at the foothills of the Deep Creek Mountains 60 miles southeast of Wendover at the Utah and Nevada line, with tribal headquarters at Ibapah, Utah. The Goshute Federal Corporation, a Section 17 tribally chartered corporation, puts membership at roughly 600, with about a quarter living on the reservation, and gives the reason plainly: a shortage of jobs and housing on the reservation. The Tribe's government site lists a Tribal Council of five, a chair, a vice chair and three members, and a General Tribal Council that meets monthly. That council page is published by Goshute Federal Corporation, a separate legal person from the Tribal government. The Tribe's own government site carries no history or culture text under its History and Culture menu.

Programs
Goshute Housing Authority
The Tribe's Business Council established the Goshute Housing Authority in 1997. It was created under Utah law and certified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, runs on a seven-person staff plus a five-member board of directors appointed by the Business Council, and states a goal of more housing units on the reservation while maintaining the homes already there. The Tribe's page records that no new units have been built since 1999. The office is at 700 Whiskey Road in Ibapah, Utah, open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
